courteous


Meaning: the way somebody behaviors, being polite, respectful or in a considerate way.


Example of using it in a sentence “The knight was courteous to the other people at court."


This word comes from Middle English meaning to have manners fit for a royal court. It was based on the Latin word meaning yard or retinue where the king spent time with the lords and ladies ruling the country.

Spelling tip: we are going to separate the word into two. The court and the ‘eous’ as the ending.

Use the word as many times throughout the week. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
