Word of the Week
Commemorate
Meaning to recall and to show respect for someone or something or to mark or celebrate an event or person. Which is timely as we will be soon commemorating the crowning of a new king.
Example of using it in a sentence "On the 11th of November we commemorate the last day of World War II."
This word comes from two Latin words. The first ‘com’ meaning all together and ‘memor’ meaning to be mindful. We then get a word meaning coming together to be mindful of someone or something.
Spelling tip: In order to get the correct number of ‘m’s’ in to the word, we will spell it how we say it.
com + mem + o + rate
Use the word as many times throughout the week. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
