Orchard Training Cookery Club - Y10 have a go at biscuits
This week Y10 have had at biscuit week. Once again I was surprised at who had not home baked biscuits before. Last week, on GBBO it was biscuit week and Custard Creams was the technical.
As it happened, I have a recipe for custard creams and a stamper. So, we set about making the dough. Unfortunately, the inexperience showed and the first batch of dough was wasted with too much extra flour added when rolling and very uneven rolling. As a result, we had some very variable results when the biscuits were baked. You can see we have some thicker than others, some misshaped and rough looking. When I say wasted, I don't mean they ended up in the bin. They were tasted, retried, nibbled and consumed. I didn't see any not eaten.
The second batch looked more even. They are even in thickness and look much more evenly matched as a pair and so will look so much nicer when sandwiched together.
Here are some of the final results.
