When bird watching how do we know which birds we are looking at? One of the ways is to learn who might be visiting and what they look like. You can spot goldfinches, at this time of year, in our gardens.
There are several species of small birds known as named for the yellow in their feathers. They live across Europe, North Africa, western and Central Asia. They like to live in open wooden lowlands. They have short notched tails, a yellow wing patch, bright red faces and their bills are sharp-pointed Goldfinches can be seen in flocks of up to 100 birds. Flocks of these small birds can been seen feeding on the weed seeds in fields and gardens. They eat small seeds, especially from ragwort, dandelions and teasels.
If you spot some, and get some photographs please share them with us.
