Word of the Week

immediate

Meaning: something that happens at once or instantly

Example of using it in a sentence “Alice rang her mum immediately the exams were over to say she was finished, and needed a ride."

This Latin word started with an prefix of “-in” in front of the root word to give it the meaning “nothing intervening” and has now change to mean the next thing in time, space or order to happen without anything happening in between. With that change comes the prefix of “-im”

Spelling tip: we are breaking the word up like this just as we say it. Remember we are breaking up this way to ensure we get both the mm’s in.

                                                               im + med + i + ate

Use the word as many times throughout the week. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
