humour
Meaning: a mood of state of mind
Example of using it in a sentence “Walking first thing in the morning sunshine always puts me in a good humour." Or "I like Tommy but I don't understand his sense of humour."
This Latin word starts off meaning moisture, and from there in to Middle English as a body fluid and medicine. By the 16th century it was seen as a mood and a ‘whim’. We use it now to mean that when we humour someone we are indulging a person’s whim.
Spelling tip: we are breaking the word up like this just as we say it.
hu + m + our
Use the word as many times throughout the week. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
