Word of the Week
Determined
Meaning: how you feel when you have made a decision and are determined to stick to it.
Example of using it in a sentence “I am determined to swim all the lengths this week, on my P.E. plan."
The root word comes from the Latin word meaning to fix and limit. So, your mind is set, fixed on a decision and you take steps to make that happen.
Spelling tip: we are going to help ourselves with the spelling but saying the word with the hard “de” at the start, a hard “ter” in the middle and soft “mine” at the end. I know the last section should be said as “min” but we need the that last ‘e’.
de + ter + mine
Use the word as many times throughout the week. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
