Meaning –a tool used for cutting cloth, paper and other materials. Made up of two blades, one on top of anther and fastened in the middle which allows them to open and shut.
Example of using it in a sentence: "Please may I use the scissors next, I want to cut out this shape.”
Spelling Tip – this word is said in such a way we cannot hear the ‘sc’ sound. So, it is going to be the case of simply learning ‘sc’ and ‘ss’ and an extra ‘s’ if there is more than one.
In school, once the phonics programme came in, we would always say this word with the ‘sc’ was first and then so it rhymed with ‘lizards’ - it would drive the Head Teacher insane.
sc + i + ss + or + (s)
Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
