Occasion (noun)

Meaning –a particular even, or the time at which it takes place.

Example of using it in a sentence: "On one occasion I stayed up until 1.30am.”

Synonyms: instance, time, moment, junction, point

It can also be used in formal speech – meaning reason or cause

“It is the first time that I have had an occasion to complain.”

Synonyms: justification, need, reason or cause.

Spelling Tip – of all the sion/tion words this is easy to remember as a member of the ‘sion’ family simple because the ‘tion’ would make it “o+ ccat + ion” when we say it - and it sounds so wrong! So to help you with this spelling say - "On this occasion, there is no ‘cat’ to complain about!"
