Word of the Week

grammar (noun)

Meaning – the whole system and structure of a language or of languages in general, usually taken to mean the syntax (the way sentences are put together), morphology (the way the words are put together with the inflections) and the way the words and sentences sound when put together.

Example of using it in a sentence: "Nicola is working hard with her grammar and sentence work.”

Synonyms: rules of language

It can also mean – in British culture a private school – a Grammar School.

Spelling Tip – Grammar Schools are also known as “posh” schools: so say the word in a posh formal voice and you will hear the double ‘mm’ - so its Gram“MAr’ not Gramm“er”

Gam + mar

Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
