Word of the Week

Analyse (Verb)

Meaning – to examine something methodically in detail, so that you can explain it or interpret it.

Example of using it in a sentence: "In English, this week, we have been asked to analyse Act 5 of Romeo and Juliet.”

Spelling Tip – there is only one tricky letter in this word, (believe me most of us get it wrong every time including me) and it is the ‘y’ which is saying a long ‘i’ sound. This is a Latin word, so it is a ‘y’ and if you ‘analyse’ the word over time: the spelling doesn’t change much. So, I want you to think about this week’s essay question ‘Analyse Act 5 of Romeo and Juliet’ and dramatically put your and to your brow and say very theatrically “Analyse - why not I

an + a + l + y +se

Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
