Word of the Week
government
Meaning: the people responsible for running the country
Example of using it in a sentence “The expense of the branded school uniforms, school dinners and school trips can put you of a school. "
This Old French word means the person who governs – when you don’t have a king or queen. The suffix “ment” is the act of doing something. So those who govern must be active in doing making sure the laws, the hospitals, the schools etc are working for the people who pay the taxes and live in the country.
Spelling tip: we are breaking the word up like this just as we say it.
gov + er + n + ment
Use the word as many times throughout the week. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
