Word of the Week

Develop

Meaning: something that is growing or causing to grow and becoming more mature or gaining advanced skills or more elaborate talents.

Example of using it in a sentence “I am developing my spelling skills with practice and I am using the words with more confidence."

The root word comes from the Latin word envelop which means to cover like an envelope covers a letter. But we have the prefix ‘de-’ which means not. So, we are not covering something or something is not folded upon itself or something is not unfolding so it is growing like a little leaf - growing bigger.

Spelling tip: we are going to help ourselves by breaking up the word into three bits and saying them out loud.

                                                               de + vel + op

Use the word as many times throughout the week. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
