Homeschool Garden Club - Redcurrants

This week the redcurrants are starting to ripen but they are doign so individally and slowly as we are still having lots of rain and wind. There is a technic to picking that means redcurrants don't burst and cover hands with their juice. Thus we ended up with a percentage that were not quite ripe enough.


The next skill is to de-stalk the redcurrants and leave them whole, some of us were able to successfully do this with a folk, some us were not able to do so.


We have had to some that were not so ripe and use the banana trick to ripen them off. Each picking is not enough to do anything with so we are freezing them until we have enough.
