Word of the Week
Meaning – to confirm or give support to either a statement, theory or a finding.
Example of using it in a sentence: “The witness had corroborated the teenagers account of the attack.”
Spelling Tip – The Latin prefix ‘cor’ meanings together and the Latin ‘roborate’ means to strengthen. So, when more than one person says the same thing, the strength of what they say is strengthened - when it is the same as others. Break up the word like this - so the second ‘r’ is remembered and this is in the ‘ate’ family.
Cor + ro + bor + ate
Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
