Lightning (noun)
Meaning –the occurrence of a natural electrical discharge of very short duration and high voltage between a cloud and the ground or within a cloud, accompanied by a bright flash and typically also thunder.
Example of using it in a sentence: "There was a tremendous flash of lightning just before the rain started.”
It also meaning when used as an adjective –very quick
Example of using it in a sentence: "He runs like lightning.”
Spelling Tip – when we say this word we can hear the first suffix and it sounds like it should be ‘-en’ followed by the ‘-ing’ as in ‘strengthening’ but don’t be fooled there is no ‘e’
