Acknowledge (verb)


Meaning – accept or admit the existence or truth of something.


Example of using it in a sentence: "The plight of the home schoolers has not been acknowledged by the authorities.”


It can so mean – recognise the importance or quality of something.


Example of using it in a sentence: “Nicola always acknowledges the efforts of the learners put in to their homework.”


Spelling Tip – this word come in three parts we can already spell ‘ac’, ‘know’ and the slightly tricky ‘ledge’ from the ‘dge’ spelling family. The word helps us out with the word ‘know’ in the middle of it, because you cannot acknowledge something without knowing it’s there.

Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
