exercise (noun)

Meaning – An activity requiring physical effort, carried out to sustain or improve health and fitness.

Example of using it in a sentence: “We aim to do 1 hour a day of physical movement to count towards our daily exercise.”

Spelling Tip – This Latin root word means 'to be kept thoroughly busy" in the form of practising a skill. That can be a physical activity: exercise which we would now think as something like swimming, walking, running, boxing, horse riding or cycling. But it can also mean a mental exercise like doing 30 question to practice a new maths skill. You can write this out 10 times as a spelling exercise – thoroughly practicing how the letter go together.
