Friday Reflection

As you may have already heard: due to a continued rise in coronavirus cases, Spelthorne Borough has now been placed on the government's COVID-19 watch list and is officially an 'area of concern'.

Data shows a sustained rise in coronavirus case numbers in Spelthorne that is out of step with the rest of Surrey, in particular, Staines-upon-Thames, Ashford, Stanwell, Shepperton, Sunbury-on-Thames, Halliford and all of the surrounding areas.

Being an 'area of concern' does not mean there will be a local lockdown or closures at this stage, but it does mean that residents must be extra vigilant and follow government guidelines to stop the spread of coronavirus.

  • Follow the rule of 6 - as of Monday it is illegal to meet up in groups of more than 6 indoors and outdoors. We are allowed to have lessons be cause we are education.

  • Hands - wash them frequently for more than 20 seconds - this is the best way of stopping the spread of the virus

  • Face - wear face coverings on public transport and in shops unless you are exempt

  • Space - stay 2m away from anyone who is not in your household or your bubble

At least, this time around we have a warning of a possible lock down and we know what to expect. Let’s hope that it doesn’t come to this. However, this year the majority of my learners are in these towns so not to spread it to the Woking, Guildford, Walton upon Thames, Weybridge learners we may have to go into lockdown together.

So, we need as a home schoolers we be prepared to return to the soft lock down we had in February.

1) If anyone is feeling sick, be it a cold, a normal return to school virus or symptoms on the covid19 list – speak up as soon as possible.

2) Please do not be offended if I decline a drink, even water.

3) You need to have your own laptop or phone to work on and it needs to be charged up or the charge needs to be plugged in to it if it is not charged.

4) You will need your own pens and note pads ready.

5) Have face masks at the ready.

What will happen if we go back in to a lockdown situation?

  • We will go back to facetime or skype calls, and if you don’t have enough data we will do simple phone calls while you are working on the maths and English.

  • I will spit you time down in to 15 minutes or 30 minuets slots depending upon your age and concentration time.

  • I will then call you the same time every day for your lesson.

  • I can see what you are working on your English and Maths, as you work on it, so can give advice or help read the question for you if your dyslexia is a problem.
