Parallel (adjective)

Meaning –two or more lines, planes or surfaces running side by side and having the same distance continuously between them.

Example of using it in a sentence: "It won’t matter how far you take them, take them off the page, off the table, off the Dover cliffs, off the planet out into the universe – these lines, planes or surfaces won’t meet, they won’t cross, they won’t get any closer – they are parallel.”

Synonyms: equidistant

It can also mean – occurring or existing at the same time or in a similar way

Example of using it in a sentence: "We often see a parallel universe in SYFY.”

Synonyms: equivalent, likeness, correspondent, match, duplicate, equal, mirror

Spelling Tip – in maths we often talk about ‘parallels’ and ‘parallelograms’ and you will know – I always struggle to say both words because in my dyslexic brain trips me up on the final ‘-el’. So, when spelling this word- remember my silly frustrated face when I need to focus on the final “–el” - so you don’t forget it.
