grateful (adjective)
Meaning – feeling or showing an appreciation for something done or received.
Example of using it in a sentence: “I am very grateful when everyone does their homework and I don’t have to chase them over the holidays – and you know that I will chase you over the holidays!”
Spelling Tip – the tricky bit is the ‘great’ and ‘grate’ which to choose – and how many times have we chosen the wrong one? The original Latin root word ‘gratus’ – ‘grate’ means ‘thanks’ and the suffix ‘ful’ makes the word mean: “full of thanks.” Whereas, ‘great’ means “bigger than average” and with the suffix does not quite make sense!
