Word of the Week

genius (noun)

Meaning – this word is used to describe exceptional intellectual or creative power or another natural ability.

Spelling Tip – there are two areas of this word that catch us out. The first is the soft ‘g’ sound at the start, is sounds like it starts with a ‘j’ so we need to learn it is a ‘g’ by remembering that if a ‘g’ is followed by a ‘e’ it is soft. The second tricky bit is that ‘i’ in the middle - it sounds like ‘e’. So, we need to say something like “I am a genius because I remember ‘i’ is in the middle of ‘gem’ and ‘us,’” when are writing this

gem + i + us

Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
