Word of the Week

This is a very useful word that can be used as an adjective, verb and a noun

separate (adjective)

Meaning –making something as a unit on its own or by itself

Example of using it in a sentence: "You are complaining about two separate issues.”

When used as a verb

Meaning –causing something to move or be apart

Example of using it in a sentence: "The chief separated the egg into the yolk and the white albumen.”

When used as a noun

Meaning –individual clothing items such as skirts, jackets, or trousers, which are suitable for wearing in different combinations.

Example of using it in a sentence: "I have bought two separates to go with that jacket.”

Spelling Tip – however you use this word your saying that your keeping something away for the complete whole. So with this in mind I going to share a way to remember how to spell this word, shared with me by a lovely 8-year-old I knew about 20 years ago. Say “you need to ‘sep’ ‘a’ ‘rat’ from ‘e’ because you don’t want a rat in there.” This way you avoid the misspelling of sep ‘er’ rate.

Sep + a + rat + e

Use the word as many times throughout the week as you can. This can be verbally, in your written work or listen out for other people using it.
